Arkle - Sutherland / September 2009

A bright, sunny and midge free start renewed enthusiasm for the wilder walks of Sutherland (under strict parental guidance), although in keeping with the weather of the last few weeks, it would only last so long...
The curious split boulder and rowan which mark the start of the climb alongside Alt horn.
Looking back on the approach to the south of Loch Stack.
Enjoying a brew beside Lochan na Faoileige before the weather closes in.
Fionaven reflected in a tiny lochan set in an oasis of heather amidst the cambrian quartzite.
After descending in heavy rain, a break in the weather appeared to be the prompt the midges were waiting for...still, an impressive walk in a fantastic setting...intention is to go back for the winter traverse of both Arkle and Fionaven.
