The Gods are Good!

So said A.E. Chrisman in the Rucksack Club Journal, Vol 6, in 1929, describing what was then, the latest Crag X, now amongst the most well known gritstone crags and known simply as Widdop.
There is everything here from a 30m Vdiff to one of the most desperate hard grit routes: Widdop Wall at E9 7a, which takes the obvious face of the buttress, top centre of picture above.
Attempting moves of similar difficulty but without the E9 status, Dave points out the holds on the latest project...
...and starts in good style...
...pulling on pebbles...
...reaching towards a desperate finish...but it was not to be.
The Gods are Good, but do not give up their secrets so easily to all.
