The Horse of Burravoe

Yell's dramatic coastline has a great deal to offer; The Horse of Burravoe being the most notable feature of the east coast.
Passing through the inner arch of The Horse...
A deep geo - a rather intimidating place into which to paddle with steep, overhanging and loose rock on all sides...
Entering the caves with the ampitheatre on the south side of The Horse, at least one of which leads back to the other side via some extremely dark and tight passages...
Interestingly, the Northern Isles guide suggests starting this trip at Toft on the mainland. Certainly a crossing of the sound (with 7kn tides at Sp) adds interest in terms of the tidal planning and potential for exciting conditions, but really it seems far more logical and logistically sensible to start at either Mid Yell or Burravoe, making use of the bus (check the times - there was only one a day whilst we were there) for the shuttle.
