South coast of Mull - Loch Spelve to Iona: Day 4

With the ferry to catch that afternoon and a bus ride to collect the car from Loch Spelve, it was an early start, the cold dawn at least allowing us to pack before the midges descended in their thousands.
The last few minutes on the beach were all but unbearable; we launched in frantic haste before sitting in the calm bay, collecting our wits and making last minute adjustments to gear hurriedly and untidily stowed beneath deck lines and bungee.
From there we paddled through the maze of islands and skerries south and west of Erraid before crossing the Sound of Iona and landing beneath Druim Dhughail.
With a low swell, light winds and clear skies, the temptation to head south and out around this perfect island was strong, the distant ties of work seeming further away than ever and yet, return we must and so, reflecting on the past three days and the remaining paddle ahead, we continued north, to take our last break at Caolas Annraidh...
...the wild beauty of this channel a fitting conclusion to an incredible journey along the south coast of Mull.
