Langcliffe Scar

To the east of Settle, Langciffe Scar stretches for some four kilometres, the highest point of the moor above the limestone crags being 553m...
...high enough, despite the recent thaw, for the snow and ice to add a little spice to the day's mountain biking.
To the south of Settle, the track climbs steadily towards Scaleber Force...
...passing beneath Attermire Scar and cave, to emerge eventually beyond Great Scar...
...where the icy track gained a little snow cover, providing better traction making for better progress towards a solidly frozen Malham Tarn.
A brief snow shower and a bitter wind hastened our return along the northern flank of Langcliffe Scar...
...the icy track becoming a dangerous test of nerve and balance for some distance...
...prompting a few stops, our relatively slow progress marked by the late afternoon light...
...catching the flank of Pen-y-ghent.
The dicy descent continues, ice giving way to the muddy and equally slippery lower slopes that lead back to the centre of Settle.
A great circuit and one which I look forward to completing again during the long summer evenings to come.
