Beneath Gars-bleinn

Launching from Elgol, with the Cuillin beckoning beyond Loch Scavaig, it is hard to resist the temptation to point the bow north and paddle immediately towards Loch na Cuilce and the ridge above.
Yet a relatively short detour in the other direction, out around the headland of Suidhe Biorach and Eilean na h-Airde is well worthwhile; the limestone cliffs are impressive as are the caves and blowholes that riddle this section of coast.
A direct crossing from here to Soay took just over an hour, after which we headed into Loch na Cuilce; late enough in the day for the tour boats to have left the bay, leaving us alone with the seals.
