Borthwen in Black & White

Having sorted out the remaining images from the weekend, I rather liked these in B&W, which seemed somehow to capture the mood of the afternoon more as I remember it...
Heavy breakers beyond the cliffs to the east of Borthwen.
After a long surf in...
...Chris turns to break out once more; though the waves close in were never big, it was hard work pulling out into the bay.
Further out amongst the bigger waves, the wind was less noticeable...
...though there was little margin for error close to the cliffs.
In spite of the extremely confused water around Ynys Traws, with the wind pushing the boats away from the breakers, it was possible get very close to the rocks over which the swell thundered, sending great plumes of spray skyward. An exhilarating place to pause and rest a while; a good place to get a sense of immensely powerful hydraulic forces in motion...
...before heading out for one last run.
