Wide winter skies

A frustrating day - high winds on the coast, a thaw across the fells and icy tracks in The Dales...I settled for a walk above Yockenthwaite, partly to check whether the tracks across the moors were rideable and partly to get used to heavy winter boots again in readiness for colder conditions which are forecast and which I hope will last long enough to bring the winter routes on the Cumbrian fells into good condition.
Back in The Dales - wide winter skies above Stake Moss - minutes later the wind increased bringing a fine stinging sleet and in near whiteout conditions I followed the broad zigzag ridge towards Outershaw Tarn before gratefully dropping out of the bitter wind to the valley floor.

It is 35 years since I visited Outershaw Tarn. Thanks for the reminder.
