TheYorkshire Three Peaks

The plan had been to recce another section of the Bob, but with torrential rain forecast, we stayed closer to home, running the Yorkshire Three Peaks instead. In the event, it wasn't much better, thick clag on the ascent of Pen-y-ghent, a brief clear spell enroute to Whernside, then more clag, a fierce wind and heavy rain for much of the remainder.
But these days, it's very much an all-weather route - too much so in some ways, the stone flags and graveled paths that dominate, rather at odds with the moorland they cross.
But then at least our feet remained dry if nothing else did, the 5,000ft of ascent and 24 miles covered taking us 5hrs and 30 mins - not a fast time for this route by any means but then that was never the objective.
