This is the end

Not to be confused with Lingmell in Wasdale, Lingmell End above Kentmere Common is one of those unfrequented ridges which lead away from anywhere most will choose visit. It is a beautiful broad ridge which narrows gradually and drops steeply into Kentmere and it was this descent and the climb back up to Froswick and Ill Bell which I had come to make.
Setting off from Mardale Head, I climbed quickly passing Small Water and then Nan Bield before striking out onto Lingmell End...
...Froswick and Ill Bell dead ahead.
It is a rough descent and the climb out of the valley is unrelenting, the vaguest of trods leading up to the ridge and, after bypassing Froswick, to the superb summit of Ill Bell. Another rough descent followed, taking an improbable line directly to the reservoir below.
A roller coaster ride of a fell run - and there followed another steep climb over Harter fell and finally Branstree. A bruiser of a run and a superb end to a tough day on the hill.
