Out of Wasdale

There is no easy way out of Wasdale - so it reads on the Harvey map of the Bob Graham Round. Some ways however, are easier than others.
On a recce, and with no need on this occasion to stick rigidly to the route, we opted to approach Dore Head via the north flank of Yewbarrow which also lent itself to an alternative line with some easy, if icy scrambling en-route to the summit of Red Pike.
Yewbarrow, seen through the pines beside Wastwater...
...and a view of Scafell and Pikes Crag across the valley.
Unconsolidated snow made for tiring progress in places, interrupted all too briefly in places by easier running...
...and enjoyable scrambling.
Wind-blown snow on the slopes beneath Red Pike...
...and the last easy slope to the summit.
Heading for Scoat Fell...
...and a view across to Steeple...
...approached with care though the snow was still soft, presenting little difficulty.
Looking towards Haycock and Seatallan, leaving the BG behind, there followed a fast descent...
...and a last view of Scafell and Scafell Pike - alpenglow in the Lakes.
